The prerequisites for the admission in this program is that the applicants must have completed two years studying general education with required courses including composition, math, critical thinking, physics, social science and anatomy. After admission, students will study for two years taking classes that focus on sonography and earn experience in fields including gynecology, abdominal ultrasound, vascular ultrasound and echocardiography. After that students will also complete 6 clinical rotations and gain practice working with both adults and children.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College
This is also a public college with two-year program and number of branches, including its Rome campus. This technical school offers diagnostic medical sonography program at the Rome facility. It also grants 27-month Associate of Applied Science and a 24-month diploma in the field of ultrasound technology. The students in the Associate program must take prerequisite courses including humanities, algebra, psychology, physics, anatomy and computer science before going for sonography classes. The students in this program can study vascular ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound and gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound specialties under this program. The students also have to complete five clinical rotations.
Grady Health System
Grady Health system is a 110-bed medical facility which was founded in 1892 and it is located in Atlanta. This is one of the popular teaching hospitals in Georgia and about 25 percent of physicians in Georgia received at least some of their training at Grady. The hospital’s school of Radiation and Imaging Technologies provides 12 months certificate in ultrasound technology. Only ten students are chosen for this program yearly and thus admission is very competitive. General requirements for the admission can be student’s SAT or ACT scores. Apart from this students should have previous college-level coursework in anatomy, physics, biology, communication, psychology and math. Likewise, applicants must have graduated from a radio-logic technology program, associate degree, a bachelor’s degree or experience in health-care related field. The selected ten students can go for the program where they will complete clinical and laboratory training on-site and study obstetrical ultrasound, gynecological ultrasound and abdominal sonography.
