Rush University Medical Center

This college is located to the north of Chicago and affiliated with Rush University Medical Center, a 671-bed general hospital. The school offers a bachelor of science in diagnostic medical sonography program for interested students. And the students should have completed some general education coursework from an accredited school or college. This program requires about 21 months of full-time study which focuses on vascular ultrasound. The students are also provided with the option that they can complete their clinical rotations at the Medical Center, at other Chicago hospitals or somewhere outside of the state.

John A. Logan College

This is a public college founded in 1967, two-year institution in Carter-ville. There are more than 14,000 students enrolled in this school but school manages to keep class sizes limited to around 18 students. It offers an Associate of Applied Science in diagnostic medical sonography which is two years program. Basic courses of this program include social science, math, communication and physics. If you talk about sonography coursework then it focuses mainly on cardiac ultrasound with three clinical rotations in area hospitals. There is provision of the school’s federal and state financial aid programs as well as few scholarships for eligible students. Students can get help on job research and interview preparation with career services department.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital

This school offers an 18 months certificate of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The prerequisites for admission are that applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science or two years credential in medical field including patient care, nursing or respiratory therapy. After the admission, students can get extensive training in both general sonography and obstetric-gynecological ultrasound.

There are currently seven schools in Illinois offering programs in diagnostic medical sonography, according to the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. These schools also provide financial aid, career placement services and scholarship for eligible students.
