All the applicants must complete courses in general biology, medical terminology and physics before getting admission in the college. The selected students will need to choose one specialty course from general ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound and vascular ultrasound.
Harrisburg Area Community College
This community college offers an associate’s degree in diagnostic medical sonography. There is huge competition as the college only accepts ten students every year. Those selected students are required to complete 78 credits. Students should also complete four clinical rotations at health facilities such as Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Lancaster Regional Medical Center or Lewiston Hospital.
Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Students can get an associate’s degree and diploma program in sonography form Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences. There are certain requirements for the admission in associate’s degree program which include previously earning high school diploma and recommendations from teachers, guidance counselors and employers. Likewise, admission requirements for the diploma program can be an associate’s degree in one of the allied health fields.
Northampton Community College
This college offers a 24-month associate’s degree and an 18-month diploma programs in diagnostic medical sonography. This program is quite unique as it offers a combination of general elective courses along with core ultrasound courses. The core ultrasound course includes sectional anatomy, fundamentals of sonography and introduction to acoustical physics. This program also requires students to complete 1,360 hours of clinical experience at various sites which includes Easton Hospital, Grandview Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Pocono Medical Center.
These schools will give all the required theoretical instructions and clinical practices which will help you become qualified ultrasound technician. There is no license required for this job but some employers might demand for some training.
